The February 6, 2024 update added the Kilowatt Case and Kukri Knife, the Ambush capsule, NIGHTMODE kits, free sticker placement and Arms Race. Full item lists and the other changes.

On February 6, 2024, Valve released "A Call to Arms", the update that gave Counter-Strike 2 its first new case and knife. The Kilowatt Case, the first case made for CS2, held 17 community-designed finishes and the Kukri Knife. The same patch brought the Ambush Sticker Capsule, the NIGHTMODE Music Kit Box, free sticker placement with up to five stickers per gun, a reworked Zeus and the return of Arms Race.

The Kilowatt Case

Valve's notes introduced "the Kilowatt Case, featuring 17 community-designed weapon finishes, and the Kukri Knife with original finishes as a rare special item". Dot Esports called it the sequel's first-ever weapon case. The full Kilowatt Collection:

  • Covert: AK-47 | Inheritance, AWP | Chrome Cannon
  • Classified: M4A1-S | Black Lotus, USP-S | Jawbreaker, Zeus x27 | Olympus
  • Restricted: Five-SeveN | Hybrid, Glock-18 | Block-18, M4A4 | Etch Lord, MP7 | Just Smile, Sawed-Off | Analog Input
  • Mil-Spec Grade: Dual Berettas | Hideout, MAC-10 | Light Box, Nova | Dark Sigil, SSG 08 | Dezastre, Tec-9 | Slag, UMP-45 | Motorized, XM1014 | Irezumi

That's 2 Covert, 3 Classified, 5 Restricted and 7 Mil-Spec skins, matching Valve's count of 17. You can browse every finish on the Kilowatt Collection page.

The Zeus x27 | Olympus landed on the same day Valve made the Zeus accept stickers and name tags, so it could be customised like any other weapon. Two of the finishes got touch-ups later: in April 2024 Valve adjusted the texture and mask of the AK-47 | Inheritance and corrected the ambient occlusion texture of the USP-S | Jawbreaker.

The Kukri Knife

The Kukri was the case's rare special item and the first new knife model in CS2. Dot Esports noted it was also the first new knife in Counter-Strike since Operation Shattered Web in 2019. Valve gave it "original finishes", the classic set of knife finishes, rather than Doppler or Gamma ones.

Rare special items: the Kukri Knife in 13 finishes: Vanilla, Blue Steel, Boreal Forest, Case Hardened, Crimson Web, Fade, Forest DDPAT, Night Stripe, Safari Mesh, Scorched, Slaughter, Stained and Urban Masked.

Valve polished it over the following days: it fixed the inspect animation on February 7, added a catch sound to the draw animation on February 12 and fixed the knife's pose in the team intro on February 15. Because no Kukri had ever been sold before, its first prices were set from scratch, a point our article on how new cases move skin prices looks at. The knife types guide compares it with the other 19 models.

The Ambush Sticker Capsule

The Ambush Sticker Capsule went on sale the same day with 21 stickers:

  • Extraordinary: Dystopian Gaze (Lenticular), Econometer (Lenticular), Old School (Lenticular)
  • Exotic: Factory Sealed (Foil), Lost In Smoke (Foil), On An Eco (Foil), Ouchie (Foil)
  • Remarkable: Cedar Creek (Holo), Lit (Holo), Lotus (Glitter), Loving Eyes (Holo), Pushing Smokes (Glitter), Try Hard (Holo)
  • High Grade: AKickflip-47, Angry T, Bum A Smoke, Easy For Ricksaw, Peek-A-Boo, Please Return To, Retro Zeus, This Is Fine (Chicken)

Stickers anywhere, five per gun

The bigger sticker news was placement. Stickers "can now be placed at user-specified positions and rotation", every weapon takes up to five, and a zoom view helps with precise placement. Before this, each gun had fixed sticker slots. A follow-up fix on February 7 made custom placements render correctly when you inspect someone else's item from the Steam Community Market or a Steam inventory.

Free placement changed sticker crafts, since the same stickers can now be angled and positioned in ways CS:GO's fixed slots never allowed. The stickers guide covers applying and scraping, and sticker crafts explained covers what makes a craft valuable.

The NIGHTMODE Music Kit Box

The NIGHTMODE Music Kit Box went on sale in standard and StatTrak versions. Its six High Grade kits:

  • DRYDEN, Feel The Power
  • ISOxo, inhuman
  • KILL SCRIPT, All Night
  • Knock2, Make U SWEAT!
  • Rad Cat, Reason
  • TWERL and Ekko & Sidetrack, Under Bright Lights

On February 28 Valve adjusted various music cues in the ISOxo, Knock2 and TWERL and Ekko & Sidetrack kits. A follow-up set, NIGHTMODE II, arrived in May 2026. For how music kits work in general, see music kits, graffiti and pins.

Arms Race and the Zeus

Arms Race, a CS:GO mode that hadn't made the jump to CS2 at launch, came back with two new maps, Baggage and Shoots. Valve's summary: get two kills with each weapon to reach the final stage, steal an opponent's progress with your knife "or now with the Zeus", and win with a kill at the knife stage.

The Zeus itself changed in every mode. It now recharges after 30 seconds instead of being used up, it can carry stickers and a name tag, and it got its own icon on kill cards and the damage report. A February 15 patch let Deathmatch players buy a Zeus every life and gave double points for a second Zeus kill in one life.

Other changes in the patch

  • Networking: peeker's advantage was reduced in many cases, by 16 ms in the steady state, and a new option buffers updates to smooth over packet loss at the cost of latency.
  • Smokes: they now cast shadows, with improved rendering and animation.
  • Buy menu: a "Refund All" button, plus a setting to hide first-person bullet tracers.
  • XP Overload: a status shown next to your name once you've earned all of the week's normal XP (11,166 XP).
  • Voice: microphone device selection, a threshold setting and a way to hear yourself.
  • Matchmaking: loadouts can't be changed while searching for Premier, Competitive or Wingman, and the CS Rating range allowed to party in Premier changed.
  • Maps: fixes for Inferno, Ancient, Anubis, Overpass, Mirage, Nuke, Vertigo, Italy and Office, mostly collision, gaps and grenade bounces.

Where it stands now

The Kilowatt Case is one of the containers community trackers still list in the active weekly drop pool as of October 2026, as our drop pool guide explains, so new copies keep arriving. In May 2024 Valve added the option to rent the whole Kilowatt Collection for a week instead of unboxing a single skin, covered in our Fire Sale article. The Kukri appeared again as the rare special item of the Gallery Case in the October 2024 Armory update, with the same 13 finishes.
