On September 16, 2025, Valve released the "Show Off" update for Counter-Strike 2. It added the Genesis Collection, 17 community-made skins that come out of a new kind of container, the Genesis Uplink Terminal. Dead players can now inspect a teammate's full loadout while spectating, every inspect panel gained zoom and pan, grenades got new sounds, and map makers got a JavaScript-based scripting system.
What the update added
| Area | Change |
|---|---|
| Items | Genesis Collection, 17 community finishes, bought through Genesis Uplink Terminals from weekly drops |
| Spectating | Inspect the loadout of the player you are watching |
| Inspect | Mouse-wheel zoom and Shift-drag pan in all inspect panels |
| Sound | New draw, inspect, pin-pull and throw sounds for each grenade |
| Map making | cs_script, a JavaScript-based scripting system, with an example map |
The Genesis Collection
Valve described the collection as "featuring 17 finishes from community contributors". It has the usual case layout of two Covert, three Classified, five Restricted and seven Mil-Spec skins, but no knives or gloves: there is no gold tier, so every offer a terminal makes is one of these 17 weapon finishes.
- Covert: AK-47 | The Oligarch, M4A4 | Full Throttle
- Classified: AWP | Ice Coaled, Glock-18 | Mirror Mosaic, MP7 | Smoking Kills
- Restricted: Dual Berettas | Angel Eyes, M4A1-S | Liquidation, MAC-10 | Cat Fight, Nova | Ocular, UMP-45 | Continuum
- Mil-Spec: AUG | Trigger Discipline, MAG-7 | MAGnitude, MP5-SD | Focus, MP9 | Broken Record, P2000 | Red Wing, P250 | Bullfrog, SCAR-20 | Caged

The whole set is on Buy if you want to compare the finishes side by side.
How the Genesis Uplink Terminal works
Valve called the container the Genesis Uplink Terminal; in your inventory it appears as a Sealed Genesis Terminal. It drops through the weekly care package like a case, but it works differently once you open it.
- No key. Unsealing the terminal costs nothing.
- An offer, not a roll. An in-game Arms Dealer offers you one item from the collection at a set price. You pay only if you accept.
- Five chances. Each terminal makes up to five offers. Dot Esports noted that a declined offer is gone for good, and Dust2.us that turning down all five burns the terminal.
- A week before trading. According to Dot Esports, a skin bought from a terminal can't be traded for a week.
A sealed terminal is still an item you can keep, trade or sell on the Steam Market, the same as an unopened case. Our guide to weekly drops compares terminals and cases in more detail.

The prices drew attention straight away. Writing the day after release, Dust2.us described a mixed reception, with many players criticising the cost of some offers, and pointed to an image shared on X of an M4A4 | Full Throttle offered at $1,587.32.
The day after launch, Valve's notes said customers in Belgium, the Netherlands and France could now unseal their Sealed Genesis Terminal items. The same patch fixed purchase errors for players whose Steam Wallet funds were in twelve currencies, among them the Japanese yen, Indian rupee, South Korean won and Ukrainian hryvnia.
Spectator loadout and inspect zoom
The update's name comes from the spectator feature. Once you are dead, you can open the loadout of the player you are watching and inspect each of their weapons. Valve's announcement put it this way: "Finally, a reason to be happy your teammates are dead", and it ended the section with "show off the best of your collection".
Valve kept adding to it over the following weeks:
- October 1, 2025: the spectated player's loadout closes automatically at the end of the match and shows the wear and pattern of their gloves.
- October 14, 2025: Major Highlight clips became viewable from the spectator loadout.
The inspect change applies everywhere: every inspect panel now zooms with the mouse wheel and pans with Shift and drag. That makes it easier to check small details such as a pattern or a sticker's scrape before you buy. Our inspecting guide covers the rest of the inspect tools.
Other changes in the patch
- Grenade sounds. Each grenade got its own higher-fidelity sounds for drawing, inspecting, pulling the pin and throwing.
- Map scripting. cs_script lets community maps run JavaScript, with an example map, script_zoo, to show how it works. A September 24 patch added many more scripting functions and a train_zoo map containing all of Train's assets for map makers.
- Shooting. The notes listed improvements to subtick shooting consistency, and a September 18 patch fixed a regression in view punch that had affected weapon sprays.
- Shadow Daggers. The September 17 patch moved their name tag and StatTrak module to the correct position.
Where it stands now
Valve's notes haven't announced the Genesis Terminal leaving weekly drops, and our drop pool guide lists it among the containers still seen there in October 2026.
The terminal system itself has been refined since. On March 4, 2026 Valve added a setting for the maximum offer you are willing to see, after which the Arms Dealer only shows offers up to that limit. A week later, on March 11, the Dead Hand Collection arrived with the second terminal, this time with 22 new gloves as rare special items. For how terminals affect prices more broadly, see how new cases and terminals move skin prices.
The previous update covered here is Ancient's night version and the Deluge music kits; the next is the October 2025 charms, stickers and community maps update.
