On March 11, 2026, Valve released "The Dead Hand", an update built around a single new collection. The Dead Hand Collection brought 17 finishes from community contributors and, in Valve's words, "22 all-new gloves as rare special items". Everything in it is bought through the Dead Hand Terminal, the second keyless terminal after Genesis, which Valve added to the weekly drops. A patch a week earlier had already changed how Market listings and terminal offers work.
What the update added
| Date | Change |
|---|---|
| March 4 | Items listed on the Steam Community Market stay usable in your inventory; terminals get a maximum offer setting |
| March 11 | Dead Hand Collection (17 weapon finishes, 22 gloves) and the Dead Hand Terminal as a weekly drop |
| March 16 | Containers can only be opened through an X-Ray Scanner in Germany and the Netherlands |
The Dead Hand Collection
The 17 weapon finishes use the same split as the Genesis Collection: two Covert, three Classified, five Restricted and seven Mil-Spec skins.
- Covert: AWP | Queen's Gambit, Glock-18 | Fully Tuned
- Classified: AK-47 | Crane Flight, P250 | Kintsugi, P90 | Deathgaze
- Restricted: Desert Eagle | Firebreathing, Galil AR | Galigator, M4A1-S | Electrum, MP7 | Amberline, MP9 | Urban Sovereign
- Mil-Spec: Five-SeveN | Dark Polymer, M249 | Bock Blocks, M4A4 | Zubastick, PP-Bizon | RMX, Sawed-Off | Fusion, UMP-45 | Fragment, USP-S | Silent Shot
The weapon finishes also come in StatTrak versions. You can compare the whole set on Buy.

The 22 gloves
The rare special items are 22 gloves on three existing glove models. No new glove type was added:
- Driver Gloves (8): Brocade Crane, Brocade Flowers, Dragon Fists, Garden, Hand Sweaters, Plum Quill, Seigaiha, Wave Chaser
- Specialist Gloves (7): Big Swell, Blackbook, Chocolate Chesterfield, Cloud Chaser, Lime Polycam, Pillow Punchers, Sunburst
- Sport Gloves (7): Blaze, Creme Pinstripe, Frosty, Occult, Red Racer, Ultra Violent, Violet Beadwork
They were the first new glove finishes since Operation Broken Fang in December 2020; the Snakebite and Recoil cases that followed reused the Broken Fang set. Hand Wraps, Moto Gloves, Bloodhound Gloves, Hydra Gloves and Broken Fang Gloves got no new finishes this time. Our gloves guide explains the eight glove types and how glove wear works.

The gloves also made this the first terminal with a gold tier. The Genesis Terminal from September 2025 offers only its 17 weapon finishes.
There is a second route to these gloves. Since October 22, 2025, Valve's trade-up rules let five regular Covert items be exchanged for a knife or gloves "from a collection of one of the items provided", so five Dead Hand Coverts can produce a Dead Hand pair. StatTrak Coverts can't, because gloves have no StatTrak version. The Covert trade-up update covers that rule.
How the Dead Hand Terminal works
The terminal works like the Genesis one. Hotspawn and Dust2.us described it this way at launch:
- No key. You get a terminal as a possible weekly drop or buy one on the Steam Community Market, and unsealing it costs nothing.
- Offers, not a roll. You are shown one specific item at a price Valve sets, and you pay only if you accept.
- Five offers. Decline one and the next appears. Turn down all five and the terminal is gone with nothing bought.
- Original Owner Certificate. Hotspawn noted that an item bought this way shows the certificate when you inspect it.
Dust2.us contrasted the prices with the first terminal: Genesis had offered skins such as the M4A4 | Full Throttle for as much as $1,500, while the Dead Hand Terminal offered gloves for as little as $250.
The March 4 patch added a control for this. You can now set a maximum offer limit, and the Arms Dealer only shows offers up to that limit. The Genesis article covers how the first terminal launched, and our guide to weekly drops compares terminals with cases.
Market impact
Valve's notes announced the terminal as a weekly drop but didn't say whether anything left the pool. Two outlets reported effects in the weeks after launch:
- Recoil Case. On March 13, Swedish site Fragbite reported that traders and tracking services believed the Recoil Case had left the active drop pool. About 12 hours after the update it sold for around $0.47, roughly 50 percent above its usual level near $0.35, after an even higher first spike.
- Older gloves. On March 27, TheXboxHub reported that in the first days after launch many older pairs, including popular ones from the Snakebite, Broken Fang and original Glove cases, fell by around 3 to 9 percent, with some expensive pairs down more than 10 percent.
- The first week. The same report said the new gloves were under a seven-day trade lock until around March 19, and that during that week prices for them often stayed 15 to 30 percent higher.

Our article on how new cases and terminals move skin prices puts these effects in a wider context.
Other changes in March
- Market listings (March 4). Items listed for sale on the Steam Community Market now stay in your inventory, so a listed weapon can still be equipped. While listed it can't be consumed or modified, and you can cancel the listing at any time.
- Inferno (March 4). The balcony at bombsite A was extended and Graveyard was closed off.
- Dust II and Alpine (March 11). Valve fixed a pixel gap in a door at Outside Long and updated the community map Alpine to its latest Workshop version.
- X-Ray Scanner (March 16). Players in Germany and the Netherlands got an X-Ray Scanner tab in their inventory, and for them containers can only be opened through it. Keyless containers such as Souvenir Packages are exempt.
Where it stands now
None of Valve's notes since March 2026 has removed the Dead Hand Terminal from weekly drops, and our drop pool guide lists it among the containers still seen there in October 2026.
The previous update covered here is the Harlequin and Achroma collections from January 2026. The next one, a week later, redesigned reloading and brought map guides to Competitive.
