The IEM Cologne Major 2026 brought the Major back to Cologne for the first time since ESL One Cologne 2016. Falcons beat FURIA 3-0 in the grand final at the LANXESS Arena on June 21, 2026, winning the organisation's first Major and Nikola "NiKo" Kovač's first after more than a decade of trying. It was also the first Major without sticker capsules or souvenir packages.
The tournament
ESL ran the event from June 2 to 21, 2026. Stages 1 to 3 were played at the Palladium, with fans admitted for Stage 3, and the playoffs moved to the LANXESS Arena. All 32 teams were invited through the Valve Regional Standings.
- Stages 1 and 2 (June 2–9): 16-team Swiss stages, best-of-three for advancement or elimination and best-of-one otherwise.
- Stage 3 (June 11–15): every match best-of-three, which ESL said was a first for a Major.
- Playoffs (June 18–21): single elimination, best-of-three, with a best-of-five grand final.
The prize pool was $1,250,000, with $500,000 for Falcons and $170,000 for FURIA. ESL reported 67,000 fans across the nine days at the two venues and a peak of more than 2.75 million viewers, citing Esports Charts, and called it the most-watched Counter-Strike tournament to date.
Falcons and the karrigan move
Falcons changed in-game leader six weeks before the Major. On April 20, 2026, after a third-place finish at IEM Rio, the Saudi organisation benched Damjan "kyxsan" Stoilkovski and signed Finn "karrigan" Andersen from FaZe Clan. karrigan rejoined NiKo, his FaZe teammate in 2017 and 2018, and coach Danny "zonic" Sørensen, his coach at Astralis. For Cologne, karrigan was registered as a substitute, with kyxsan still on the official roster.

Falcons went 3-1 in Stage 3, beating G2 Esports, Monte and Natus Vincere and losing to BetBoom. Valve called their playoff bracket the toughest in Major history. In the quarter-final they beat Team Vitality, who were chasing a third straight Major, 2-1 with every map going to 24 rounds. In the semi-final they beat Team Spirit 2-1, with two maps going to overtime and a 16-12 finish on Dust II.
FURIA, with Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo, Yuri "yuurih" Santos, Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato, Danil "molodoy" Golubenko and Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis, reached their first Major final after going 3-0 in Stage 3 and beating 9z 2-1 and Aurora 2-0. ESL noted that FalleN was back on a Cologne Major stage ten years after lifting the trophy there with SK Gaming.

HLTV reported that Falcons opened FURIA's Mirage pick with an 8-0 run. On Anubis, m0NESY started a 4-0 lead with a four-kill pistol round on Dual Berettas, and Falcons won the map with an 8-1 run on their T side. Inferno was carried by NiKo and kyousuke, who combined for 33 kills. Neither organisation had won a Major before, and HLTV noted it was NiKo's 17th attempt.
m0NESY was named MVP twice over. HLTV gave him its MVP award with a 1.25 rating, breaking a tie with NiKo and kyousuke, and ESL presented him the ESL Pro Tour DHL MVP Award. HLTV pointed out that he had lost eight grand finals in a row before Cologne. For karrigan, it was a second Major after PGL Antwerp 2022 with FaZe.
Elsewhere, ESL highlighted BIG's comeback from 0-12 to win Mirage against NRG with 16 rounds in a row, and Spirit's quarter-final win over G2 after a four-overtime decider.
Stickers: a shop instead of capsules
Valve opened the Cologne 2026 Major Shop on May 21 and sold every team and player sticker directly, in paper, holo, foil and gold, for tokens priced by demand. Royalties still totalled 50%, but were tied to placings: after the grand final, Falcons' slot took the champion's share. After the final Valve added two sets to the shop:
- Champions Autograph stickers for Falcons in paper, holo, foil and gold.
- Highlight Charms: ten highlights from each of the six stages, plus Falcons lifting the trophy.
The champion autographs show the registered roster: NiKo, m0NESY, kyousuke, TeSeS and kyxsan. karrigan, as a substitute, has no Cologne 2026 sticker. Dust2.us reported in July that Valve nevertheless gave karrigan the in-game champion trophy, a change from its previous practice of giving it to the registered player.
At the end of July Valve added a Ranked Series of cheaper stickers that show each team's final standing, saying the original dynamic pricing "didn't produce reasonable prices". It said the shop would stay open until September 29, 2026.
Souvenirs: made to order
There were no souvenir packages. With the Souvenir-O-Matic, players picked a weapon they owned, a completed match and one player from it, and paid tokens to turn the weapon into a Souvenir with gold team, autograph and map stickers. Collecting Cologne 2026 items
- Read the series. Cologne stickers come in the event series, the Ranked Series and, for Falcons, the Champion series. "Ranked" or "Champion" appears in brackets in the item name.
- No luck involved. Every Cologne sticker was bought by choice, so the price someone paid depended on demand at the time, not on what a capsule happened to contain.
- Check the Souvenir's choices. A Cologne Souvenir was made to order, so read the match, the player autograph and the base skin.
