Revolver Case (December 2015): the R8 Revolver's debut, skins and knives

The Revolver Case arrived with the R8 Revolver in the December 2015 Winter Update. Every skin by grade, the original knife pool, float caps, StatTrak and the case's status in CS2.

The Revolver Case came out with CS:GO's Winter Update in December 2015, the same patch that added the R8 Revolver. It carried the first R8 finishes available from a case, a set of community-made guns and the original five knives. Here is what it holds and where it stands in CS2 as of October 2026.

The Winter Update and the R8

Valve's release notes for December 8, 2015 added "the Revolver Case" and a new secondary weapon, "the R8 Revolver, which occupies the Desert Eagle loadout slot." The same patch put gifts on sale, added several community sticker capsules as in-game offers and introduced the 2016 Service Medals. Valve's Winter Update post also listed Killer Replay, which lets you watch your death from your opponent's view in Casual and Demolition, a 60-second timeout that teams can vote for in Competitive, new round and C4 timers of 1:55 and 0:40, and more movement inaccuracy for every pistol except the R8. Valve said the new timers were meant to unify the professional and community experience.

The same post explained where the first R8 finishes went: "Two have been added to existing collections, and two can be found in the new Revolver Case." The game files show which: Amber Fade joined the Dust 2 Collection and Bone Mask the Bank Collection, while Crimson Web and Fade went into the case.

The gun did not stay as shipped for long. Two days later, in a post titled "Damage Control", Valve wrote that "it's clear that we got the damage wrong and can respond immediately", and cut the R8's damage while making it slightly slower to fire. It added that new weapons such as the CZ75-Auto and M4A1-S had needed several rounds of tuning, and promised to keep adjusting the values.

What the case contains

The Revolver Case holds 17 guns. The Counter-Strike Wiki's introduction says 16, but its own gallery and the game's loot list both have 17, and the grades below come from that loot list.

The knives

Despite its late date, the case's rare special item is the original pool: the Bayonet, Flip Knife, Gut Knife, Karambit and M9 Bayonet, plain or in the 12 Arms Deal finishes such as Fade, Case Hardened, Crimson Web and Slaughter. That is 65 possible knives, the same list as the CS:GO Weapon Case and its two sequels. In the game files, the Revolver Case is the newest container that uses this exact pool.

The usual caps apply. Fade knives are limited to 0.00 to 0.08 and Slaughter to 0.01 to 0.26, while Case Hardened uses the full range and depends on its pattern seed for the amount of blue. Our Case Hardened guide covers that in detail.

Skins worth knowing

R8 Revolver | Fade. The case's signature skin runs from 0.00 to 0.40, so it reaches Well-Worn but never Battle-Scarred. How much of the gradient shows depends on the pattern, as with other Fades; our fade percentage guide explains the scale.

M4A4 | Royal Paladin. The other Covert, with a range of 0.00 to 0.80.

AK-47 | Point Disarray. Capped at 0.67.

G3SG1 | The Executioner. Its range starts at 0.14, so there is no Factory New copy.

Desert Eagle | Corinthian. A Mil-Spec capped at 0.44, just below the Battle-Scarred line.

P2000 | Imperial. Another Mil-Spec pistol, capped at 0.20, so it never goes past Field-Tested.

StatTrak and where the case stands

Every gun and knife in the case has a StatTrak version, including the two R8 finishes, and the game files list a StatTrak copy of the knife pool.

The Revolver Case is not in the current weekly drop pool. Community drop trackers have recorded no rare-pool drops since December 2025, as Hotspawn reported that month, and Valve hasn't commented. Hotspawn noted at the time that the change might not be permanent, but for now the supply only shrinks as cases are opened. Since November 27, 2024, older cases like this one can also be opened as a rental, which lends you the case's weapon finishes for a week instead of giving you one item to keep.

Since October 22, 2025, five Covert skins can be traded up into a knife from the collection of one of them, so the M4A4 | Royal Paladin and R8 Revolver | Fade both lead to the original five knives. Five StatTrak Coverts return a StatTrak knife.
