CS2 "Mission Possible" update (May 2025): weekly missions and five community maps

Valve's May 7, 2025 update added weekly XP missions and five community maps (Jura, Grail, Agency, Dogtown, Brewery), regrouped Casual and Deathmatch maps and fixed "/" key binds.

On May 7, 2025, Valve released "Mission Possible" for Counter-Strike 2. It added weekly missions that pay out bonus XP, brought in five community maps (Jura, Grail and Agency for 5v5 modes, Dogtown and Brewery for Wingman) and sorted Casual and Deathmatch into new map groups. It also fixed key binds to "/" that weren't being saved. The update added no new items.

Weekly missions

Valve's notes describe the system in three lines: you get one mission each week, it expires after seven days, and completing it rewards XP. You can open the current mission from the main menu or the play menu. A patch the next day fixed mission progress that appeared to reset when you reconnected to a match in progress.

Missions are familiar from CS:GO, where they came with operation passes. CS2 has never had an operation, and the Armory, its paid pass, has no missions at all (our operations history covers the old format). Weekly missions brought the idea back without an operation, and Valve's notes don't tie them to any pass.

What the XP is worth depends on your account. Only Prime accounts earn XP, and your first profile rank-up of the week is what unlocks the weekly care package, as our guide to weekly drops explains. A completed mission adds to that XP, though Valve's notes don't say how much a mission gives.

The five community maps

The new maps replaced Basalt, Edin, Palais and Whistle, which had arrived in November 2024. Valve said that "it's easier than ever to play community maps": Jura, Grail and Agency also got their own Community Map Group. For Jura, Grail, Dogtown and Brewery, the creators below are the ones listed on the map's Steam Workshop page, and the Counter-Strike Wiki names the same people.

  • Jura (bomb defusal). Set among the ruins of a castle in Poland's Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. Made by vfxNev, ProAgressiVe and nelson.
  • Grail (bomb defusal). Its Workshop page calls it "a bomb defusal map set in a stylised fantasy mini-golf course." BLAST.tv and Beebom both reported that it had won Mapcore's Big Adventures mapping contest. Made by radu, Lizard and flowlee.
  • Agency (hostage rescue). A remake of a CS:GO map that the Counter-Strike Wiki lists in four operations, starting with Operation Bravo in 2013. Puddy, named by the wiki as one of the original's designers, is among the authors on the CS2 version's Workshop page.
  • Dogtown (Wingman). An amusement park on a pier, which its Workshop page calls Dogtown Park, "marred by stalled renovations". Made by JimFK, ksvly and Angel.
  • Brewery (Wingman). Set in a local brewery that, in the story on its Workshop page, two moonshiners target with C4. Made by Vaya, JimWood and Oliver.

Valve kept pulling newer versions from the Workshop afterwards: Grail on May 8, then Jura, Grail, Brewery and Dogtown on May 12.

New Casual and Deathmatch map groups

Casual and Deathmatch sort maps into groups. The update rearranged them like this:

  • Defusal Group Alpha: Dust II, Mirage, Inferno, Vertigo
  • Defusal Group Delta: Train, Anubis, Ancient, Overpass, Nuke
  • Community Map Group: Jura, Grail, Agency
  • Hostage Group: Office, Italy

Alpha and Delta together hold the seven Active Duty maps of the time plus Overpass and Vertigo, which were out of the competitive pool. On May 12 Valve fixed a bug that sent players searching for Alpha to Anubis and those searching for Delta to Vertigo. The two defusal groups lasted beyond this update: when Retakes became an official mode in October 2025, it ran on the Alpha and Delta maps (see the Re-Retakes article).

The "/" binds

Valve's announcement ended with a nod to "fans of binding keys to '/'". The release notes explain it: input bindings to scancode56, the "/" key on a US English keyboard, wouldn't persist across app launches. If you had a command bound to that key, it was lost every time you restarted the game. From this update on, the bind stays.

Other changes in the patch

  • Audio. A new "Main Menu Ambience Volume" setting, fixes for attacker feedback sounds when shooting enemies over a smoke, and the removal of four snd_ mixer console commands.
  • Blocked players. Lobby invites from players you have set to "Block All Communication" in Steam are now ignored in-game.

The patches over the following week added more:

  • May 8: fire no longer showed through smoke.
  • May 13: Premier Season Two world and regional leaderboards were populated, and minimally scraped stickers now cover the gap on the front grip of the AK-47.
  • May 15: Deathmatch allowed unbalanced teams, and the front of the AK-47's firing sound was shortened.

The sticker change matters if you place stickers on the AK-47's front grip, where they used to leave that gap uncovered. Our stickers guide covers placement and scraping.

Where it stands now

Four of the five maps were gone within five months. On October 1, 2025, Valve removed Jura, Grail, Dogtown and Brewery from every mode and added Golden, Palacio, Rooftop and Transit (October 2025 article). Agency stayed until January 21, 2026, when Premier Season Four brought a new set of community maps.

Weekly missions have outlasted them. Valve's release notes up to October 2026 haven't changed or removed the system since the May 8 fix.

The update before this one was Spring Forward in March 2025; the next were the Warhammer 40,000 sticker capsules on May 22.
