Gamma and Gamma 2 cases (2016): Gamma Doppler, Lore and every skin

The two 2016 Gamma cases: every skin by grade, the six Gamma knife finishes from Gamma Doppler and Lore to Freehand, their float caps, StatTrak and where the cases stand in CS2.

The Gamma Case and Gamma 2 Case did for 2016 what the Chroma cases did for 2015: they gave the five original knives a whole new set of finishes. Gamma Doppler, Lore, Autotronic, Black Laminate, Bright Water and Freehand all made their knife debut here. Below are both cases' contents, the knife finishes and their float caps, and where the cases stand in CS2 as of October 2026.

Two releases two months apart

Valve's release notes for June 15, 2016 added "new Gamma weapon case featuring 17 community-created weapon finishes and all-new knife finishes." The same update made the Operation Wildfire Access Pass unavailable for purchase and tightened the requirements for Prime matchmaking. PCGamesN's write-up singled out the new "golden-etched" Lore finish with its green handles.

The Gamma 2 Case followed on August 18, 2016, in an update Valve called "Double Exposure" that also upgraded several pistol sounds and changed spectating so a player's X-ray glow dims while they make no sound. Each case has its own key, but the game files point both at the same rare item list, so the knives are identical.

The Gamma knives

The knives are the Bayonet, Flip Knife, Gut Knife, Karambit and M9 Bayonet, each in six finishes, for 30 in all. The game's item file sets these float ranges:

FinishFloat rangeWhat that means
Gamma Doppler0.00 to 0.08Factory New and Minimal Wear only
Lore0.00 to 0.65Every exterior
Autotronic0.00 to 0.85Every exterior
Black Laminate0.00 to 1.00Every exterior
Bright Water0.00 to 0.50Battle-Scarred only up to 0.50
Freehand0.00 to 0.48Battle-Scarred only up to 0.48

Gamma Doppler works like the Chroma Doppler: it is five separate paint kits under one name, Phase 1 to Phase 4 plus the all-green Emerald. The wiki lists every one of them on each of the five knives. Our Doppler phase guide explains how to read the phase from an inspect link or the in-game Finish Catalog number.

These finishes later spread to other models: the wiki notes, for example, that the Shadow Daggers got Gamma finishes in the Operation Riptide Case in 2021. For the Chroma finishes on the same five knives, see the Chroma cases.

What each case contains

The grades come from the game's loot lists, which match the wiki. Each case has 17 guns.

Skins worth knowing

AK-47 | Neon Revolution. Gamma 2's best-known Covert, with a range of 0.00 to 0.80.

M4A1-S | Mecha Industries and Glock-18 | Wasteland Rebel. The original Gamma Case's two Coverts. The Glock is capped at 0.54, the M4A1-S at 0.80.

FAMAS | Roll Cage. Gamma 2's second Covert uses the full 0.00 to 1.00 range.

Gamma Case Classifieds. The M4A4 | Desolate Space uses the full range too, while the P2000 | Imperial Dragon is capped at 0.63 and the SCAR-20 | Bloodsport at 0.45, which keeps it out of Battle-Scarred.

AWP | Phobos. A Restricted AWP, capped at 0.40.

Desert Eagle | Directive. Its range starts at 0.06, so Factory New copies exist only in the narrow 0.06 to 0.07 window.

StatTrak and where the cases stand

Every gun and knife has a StatTrak version, and the game files list a StatTrak copy of the shared knife pool.

Neither case is in the current weekly drop pool. Community drop trackers have recorded no rare-pool drops since December 2025, as Hotspawn reported that month, and Valve hasn't commented, so both cases now only shrink in number as people open them.

Since October 22, 2025, five Covert skins can be traded up into a knife from the collection of one of them. Because both cases share one list, Hotspawn's trade-up guide lists all four Gamma Coverts as routes to these 30 knives, and five StatTrak Coverts return a StatTrak knife. You can't pick the model, finish or phase of the result.

If you are after one particular phase, the Doppler phase filter on Buy narrows a search to that phase.
