CS2 Rush Hour update (September 2026): Rush 3v3 mode, Premier map picks and silent reloads

The September 22, 2026 Rush Hour update added Rush, a queued 3v3 mode, swapped Premier map bans for picks, and brought silent reloads, new crosshairs, clan tags and the Starjunk 95 music kit.

On September 22, 2026, Valve released "Rush Hour". The update added Rush, a fast queued 3v3 mode, changed how Premier chooses its map, and made reloads and unscoping possible without a sound. It also rebuilt the crosshair settings, brought back clan tags, allowed stickers on the C4 and added the Starjunk 95 music kit.

Rush, a new 3v3 mode

Rush is a queued mode for three players a side. Valve's notes describe it in four lines:

  • It is a fast-paced, queued 3v3 game mode.
  • Players fight through a series of battle arenas to reach the opponent's castle and win the match.
  • The arenas are randomly selected for each match, "so no two matches are the same".
  • You win a round by controlling the tower when you eliminate the enemy team, or when time expires.

Valve's post adds that you play on a limited budget and against the clock, and that a Rush friends leaderboard tracks your wins. Valve calls the flow of a match a "push and pull". The Counter-Strike Wiki describes how that works: the team that wins a round takes control of that arena, the next fight moves accordingly, and a team pushed back to its last territory has to defend its own Castle.

Valve kept tuning the mode in the following days. On September 23 it raised the maximum countdown after an elimination from 7 to 14 seconds "on end rooms and Convoy", stopped that countdown from starting when a whole team dies to suicides, team kills or disconnects, and shortened warm-up, freeze time and technical timeouts. On September 24 the loading screen got a clearer explanation of the rules, and the rules for kicking players over team damage changed. Most patches since have included clipping or gap fixes for the Rush rooms, including the castle rooms on September 28.

Premier: picks instead of bans

Until this update, Premier teams banned maps until one was left. Now they pick:

  1. Team 1 picks one map.
  2. Team 2 picks two maps.
  3. Team 1 picks a final map.
  4. One of the four is selected at random and the match begins.

Valve's reasoning, from its post: "if you spend a lot of time developing strategies on a map, you should have a chance to benefit from that investment." Each team gets two picks, so a map your side has practised can always be put into the draw. The flip side is that you can no longer remove a map you dislike; you can only decline to pick it. The pool itself didn't change: Ancient, Anubis, Cache, Dust II, Inferno, Mirage and Nuke, as set in Season Five.

Silent reloads and silent unscoping

Holding the reload key now reloads silently, but Valve's post warns that "silent reloads take quite a bit longer". Unscoping a sniper rifle no longer makes a sound at all. Both remove information the other team used to rely on: the sound of a reload and the sound of a sniper coming off the scope.

Valve closed several loopholes in the first week. On September 24 it fixed a trick that gave a slightly faster silent reload by tapping the key before holding it, and stopped silent reloads from letting shotguns fire faster than normal. On September 25 it fixed loud reload sounds playing during a stealth reload, and on October 8 a Desert Eagle sound during silent reloads. The same October 8 patch cut the AUG's reload time by half a second. Reloads had already been redesigned around magazines in March; our reload article covers that change.

Crosshairs

Crosshairs are now resolution independent, with a new Crosshair/Scopes tab in the settings, new styles, and a new default called "Dynamic Quad", which Valve says better represents weapon accuracy. The follow-up notes filled in the details:

  • September 23: thickness and length are now set in pixels and rescale automatically when you change resolution. Valve's example: a 2-pixel crosshair set at 1280x720 becomes 4 pixels at 2560x1440. It also added half-outlines and a static square style.
  • September 30: an outline colour option, a "Static Quadrant" style, grenade crosshairs during freeze time, and negative gaps for the classic dynamic style. The crosshair share code changed format so it can include the new settings, including scope dot size and colour.
  • October 2: a fix for grenade crosshairs at a thickness of 3 pixels.

Clan tags, blood and the C4

  • Clan tags. If you belong to a Steam Community group, you can choose it in your player profile and its tag appears next to your name. From September 23 the tag also shows in death notices, and from September 25 custom servers can switch tags off.
  • Blood and impacts. Valve "globally increased visual clarity" and improved the detail of bullet impact decals. Its post puts it more plainly: "Blood is now much more bloody."
  • Stickers on the C4. The bomb can now carry stickers. Our stickers guide covers placement and scraping.
  • Smaller changes. Music volume can be set per game mode, chickens now take damage from the Zeus x27, the grenade limit setting now also caps how many grenades a player can buy in a round, and halftime scoreboard stats now fully reflect the previous round.
  • Maps. Fixes on Ancient (holes in Long A Main Hall, door and grenade clipping in Jaguar), Cache (around the blue doors in Mid), Mirage (scaffolding by the A-site balcony) and Train (a pixel gap in the crates on A).

The Starjunk 95 music kit

The new kit is Music Kit | Starjunk 95, Industrial Sunset Memories, sold in standard and StatTrak versions through the in-game store. Like the six NIGHTMODE II kits of May 2026, which our NIGHTMODE II article covers, it is a direct purchase rather than a box with random contents. Valve's post bills it as music "from the grooviest station in the galaxy". The kit shares its name with Starjunk95's album Industrial Sunset Memories, released on Bandcamp on April 17, 2026.

As with other StatTrak music kits, the StatTrak version counts the Official Competitive MVPs you earn while it is equipped. Our guide to music kits, graffiti and pins explains how kits work.

Where it stands now

Valve shipped eight more patches between September 23 and October 8, 2026, mostly Rush clipping fixes, crosshair additions and silent reload fixes, all covered above. None of them reversed the main changes: Rush is still in the game, Premier still uses picks and silent reloads remain. For earlier updates, see the updates category.
