The Armory update of October 2, 2024 did more than add a pass. Its release notes introduced weapon charms, a new type of cosmetic item, with two charm collections, and two new sticker collections. They also changed how stickers are applied and scraped, let players preview stickers and charms on their own guns, put a 7-day re-trade and re-market restriction on newly acquired items and removed the option to delete cases.
The pass, the weapon collections and the Gallery Case are covered in our Armory update article.

How charms worked at launch
Valve introduced charms as "dynamic items you can apply to your favorite weapons", available "exclusively in the Armory". A random charm from either collection cost 3 credits. The rules from the notes:
- You drag and drop a charm to place it precisely on the weapon. "A weapon can have one charm attached at a time."
- A Charm Detachment takes it off. The charm returns to your inventory "and can be reused".
- Each charm redeemed from the Armory came with three free Charm Detachments; more were sold in the store.
That made charms different from stickers, which are used up when applied. Our charms guide covers attaching, detaching and charm patterns in detail.

Missing Link Charms
The in-game description reads: "This collection contains a variety of sausage-themed charms." Valve's Armory page joked about wanting "a tiny sausage person hanging off of it". Names below drop the "Charm |" prefix they carry in game.
- Extraordinary: Hot Howl, Hot Wurst
- Exotic: Diamond Dog, Diner Dog, Lil' Monster
- Remarkable: Chicken Lil', Lil' Sandy, Lil' Squatch, Lil' Teacup, Lil' Whiskers, That's Bananas
- High Grade: Big Kev, Hot Sauce, Lil' Ava, Lil' Crass, Lil' SAS, Pinch O' Salt

Elemental Craft and Character Craft stickers
Valve presented them as "two all-new sticker collections that encourage you to mix, match, and craft your own art on your favorite weapon." Since February 2024 a gun can carry five freely placed stickers, as our Kilowatt Case article explains, which is what makes that kind of combining possible. A random sticker cost 1 credit. Names drop the "Sticker |" prefix.

Sticker scraping and removal
Before this patch, a sticker went on pristine and you scraped it afterwards. The update changed three things:
- A "sticker scrape level selector" when applying a new sticker, so it can go on already worn. Valve's Armory page added that you can preview the scrape before applying.
- A "precise sticker wear level selector" for stickers already on a weapon. Valve added that "any applied stickers can only increase their sticker scrape level".
- A way to "immediately remove existing stickers" instead of scraping them off.
A removed sticker is destroyed, not returned to your inventory. Our stickers guide explains scraping in detail.
Previews and other inventory changes
Any sticker, patch or charm on the Steam Community Market, in the Armory or in a friend's Steam inventory could now be previewed on your own items, so you can check a combination before buying. Name tags got a preview on the actual item too. Applying a name tag or sticker no longer unequipped the weapon in several cases, and customising an equipped base weapon now equips the customised version.
The notes also "removed ability to delete weapon cases from your inventory". Unwanted cases can still be traded or sold, but no longer thrown away.
The 7-day re-trade restriction
The line with the most effect on trading: "All items acquired from the in-game store (including the Armory), Trade Offers, and Steam Community Market are now subject to a 7 day re-trade and re-market restriction." An item you bought, redeemed or received in a trade had to stay in your inventory for a week before you could trade it on or list it on the Market.
Trading rules changed again on July 15, 2025, when Valve introduced trade protection: CS2 items received in a trade stay protected for seven days, and the trade can be reversed during that time. Our trade protection explainer covers how that works and how Market purchases differ, and our Season Three article covers the patch that introduced it.
Later charm changes
| Date | Change |
|---|---|
| Oct 8, 2024 | Charm physics improved "to better align with weapon animations" |
| Nov 13, 2024 | Charm Template number shown in charm descriptions |
| Mar 20, 2025 | Workshop artists can submit patterns for the Missing Link charm |
| Oct 1, 2025 | Missing Link Community (23) and Dr. Boom (22) charms added; charms jolt on audible footsteps |
| Nov 12, 2025 | Sticker Slab, a charm that seals any sticker |
The Template number is the charm's pattern, explained in the charms guide; it became visible with the Train update. The Workshop patterns led to the Missing Link Community collection, covered in our October 2025 charms article, and the slab in our sticker slabs article.
Where it stands now
Valve removed Character Craft from the Armory on October 1, 2025, and its July 8, 2026 notes said Elemental Craft was "no longer available in the Armory". None of Valve's notes up to October 2026 announce the removal of the Missing Link or Small Arms charms. Charms, meanwhile, have moved beyond the Armory, into Major souvenirs and the Major Shop, as the charms guide describes.
