The CS20 Case is Counter-Strike's birthday present to itself. Valve released it in October 2019 to mark 20 years of the series, filled it with skins that nod to the old games and maps, and made its rare special item the Classic Knife, modelled on the knife players carried in earlier Counter-Strike games. It is still the only case that contains that knife.
Released with Cache's return
The case arrived with Valve's October 18, 2019 update, titled "Cache and Release". The headline for many players was the map: the rebuilt Cache by FMPONE and Volcano became playable on official servers in Casual, Deathmatch and Scrimmage, though Dexerto noted it had not yet returned to the Competitive map pool.
Valve's post said the case was released "to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of Counter-Strike", with themed finishes from the Steam Workshop and the Classic Knife as "a classic of the Counter-Strike series". The CS20 Sticker Capsule, with 20 community-designed stickers, went on sale the same day. Dexerto highlighted its foil Door Stuck sticker, which recalls both the old "DOOR STUCK" outburst from the 1.6 era and a chicken blocking a door on Inferno that got ropz killed in a competitive match. Our guide to sticker capsules outside the Majors puts it in context. Dexerto reported that Valve had teased the old knife on social media the day before, and that this was the first new weapon case since the Prisma Case in March.
Contents by rarity
The Counter-Strike Wiki and the game's item data agree on the 17 finishes.
| Rarity | Count | Skins |
|---|---|---|
| Covert (red) | 2 | AWP Wildfire, FAMAS Commemoration |
| Classified (pink) | 3 | AUG Death by Puppy, MP9 Hydra, P90 Nostalgia |
| Restricted (purple) | 5 | Five-SeveN Buddy, M249 Aztec, MP5-SD Agent, P250 Inferno, UMP-45 Plastique |
| Mil-Spec (blue) | 7 | Dual Berettas Elite 1.6, FAMAS Decommissioned, Glock-18 Sacrifice, MAC-10 Classic Crate, MAG-7 Popdog, SCAR-20 Assault, Tec-9 Flash Out |
| Rare special item (gold) | 13 | Classic Knife, plain plus 12 finishes |
Every gun skin and every Classic Knife can also come as StatTrak, with a kill counter on the gun or etched into the blade.
The references in the skins
Almost every finish in the case points at a piece of Counter-Strike history. The Counter-Strike Wiki lists the connections:
- Old maps. The M249 | Aztec and P250 | Inferno use textures from those maps, the FAMAS | Decommissioned draws on the original Nuke, and the SCAR-20 | Assault is modelled on a shipping container from the old map Assault.
- Old models. The Dual Berettas | Elite 1.6 recreates the gun's look in earlier Counter-Strike versions, and the MAC-10 | Classic Crate is based on the classic crate model.
- Memorable moments. The Glock-18 | Sacrifice references olofmeister's defuse while burning on Overpass.
- Earlier CS:GO items. The AUG | Death by Puppy answers the P90 | Death by Kitty from the 2013 eSports case, while the AWP | Wildfire and MP9 | Hydra are named after Operations Wildfire and Hydra.
- The series' past. The P90 | Nostalgia shows a character from the original game's main menu, and the MAG-7 | Popdog carries the old logo of Barking Dog Studios.
Dexerto singled out the two Coverts as the case's rarest skins: the gold FAMAS | Commemoration and the fiery AWP | Wildfire.

The Classic Knife
The Counter-Strike Wiki describes the Classic Knife as a cosmetic knife based on the one in previous Counter-Strike games. Like every cosmetic knife, it plays exactly like the default knife; only the look and animations differ. Our knife guide describes its animations, which keep the old habit of tapping the blade against the hand.
The case offers it in 13 versions: the plain knife plus 12 classic finishes.
| Family | Finishes |
|---|---|
| Pattern finishes | Case Hardened, Crimson Web, Fade, Slaughter |
| Camouflage | Boreal Forest, Forest DDPAT, Night Stripe, Safari Mesh, Scorched, Urban Masked |
| Treated steel | Blue Steel, Stained |
No later case has added the Classic Knife, so it has no Doppler, Marble Fade or Gamma finishes, and these 13 remain the only versions. On the pattern finishes, the paint seed decides how the pattern falls, which our paint seed guide explains.

Float caps worth knowing
A float cap limits how clean or worn a skin can be. The AWP | Wildfire runs from 0.01 to 0.70, so no copy has a float below 0.01. The FAMAS | Commemoration stops at 0.50, so its Battle-Scarred copies all sit just past the 0.45 boundary. The AUG | Death by Puppy is capped at 0.40 and never reaches Battle-Scarred. Our float guide explains the tiers.
Where the CS20 Case stands in 2026
The case no longer drops. According to Hotspawn, the rare drop pool that still handed out older cases stopped producing them in December 2025, and Valve made no announcement. By January 2026, Techaeris found only five containers in the weekly pool, none of them the CS20 Case, and drop trackers still listed it as discontinued in October 2026.
There is now a second route to the knife, though. Since October 22, 2025, Valve's trade-up contract lets you exchange five Covert skins for a knife from the collection of one of the skins you put in. Our Covert trade-up article covers how that works and what it does not guarantee.
