CS2 practice commands turn an offline map into a training ground: unlimited grenades, a preview of where each one lands, bots that stand still and a warmup that never ends. The basics are switches in the Practice menu, and the console covers the rest, from bot commands to bunny hop settings and a 1v1 with a friend. All of it works only in a game you host, never in matchmaking.
How to start a practice server in CS2
Open Play, choose the Practice tab, then a mode and a map. The bot dropdown runs from Harmless Bots to Expert Bots, and the Options panel has four switches:
- Grenade Camera shows a picture-in-picture preview of where a grenade will land and draws its path as a glowing trail.
- Infinite Ammo means weapons never use ammunition or need reloading.
- Infinite Warmup keeps the match in warmup, and no bots join.
- Enable Map Guides loads the guide picked in the dropdown and forces the other three on. Our map guides article explains what guides are.
A Practice match runs on your own PC, so you are the server and can change its settings from the developer console (Settings > Game > Enable Developer Console). The same goes for a map you load with the map command, such as map de_mirage. Commands marked as cheat-protected below need sv_cheats 1 first, which allows cheats for everyone on your server.
Grenade practice commands
| Command | Needs sv_cheats 1 | What it does |
|---|---|---|
sv_infinite_ammo 1 | Yes | Your active weapon never runs out of ammo |
sv_grenade_trajectory_prac_pipreview 1 | No | Picture-in-picture view of the landing spot |
sv_grenade_trajectory_prac_trailtime 8 | No | Draws the flight path for up to 8 seconds |
cl_sim_grenade_trajectory | Yes | Draws the path the grenade in your hand would take from where you stand |
sv_rethrow_last_grenade | Yes | Throws the last grenade on the server again |
noclip | Yes | Fly through walls to check the landing spot |
getposcopy, setpos, setang | Yes | Copy your position and view angles, then return to them |
ammo_grenade_limit_total 5 | No | Carry five grenades; Competitive allows four |
mp_buy_anywhere 1 | No | Buy outside the buy zone |
sv_showimpacts 1 | No | Marks bullet impacts, client in red and server in blue |
A typical config, close to the one Hotspawn publishes, looks like this:
sv_cheats 1
bot_kick
mp_warmup_end
mp_freezetime 0
mp_roundtime_defuse 60
mp_buytime 9999
mp_buy_anywhere 1
mp_startmoney 60000
mp_maxmoney 60000
ammo_grenade_limit_total 5
sv_infinite_ammo 1
sv_grenade_trajectory_prac_pipreview 1
sv_grenade_trajectory_prac_trailtime 8
mp_restartgame 1
Save it as practice.cfg in the game's game\csgo\cfg folder and type exec practice.cfg once the map has loaded. mp_restartgame 1 comes last so the round restarts with everything applied, and 60 minutes is the longest round mp_roundtime_defuse allows.
Many older guides still list sv_grenade_trajectory, sv_grenade_trajectory_time and cl_grenadepreview. None of them exists in CS2's current build, so use the two sv_grenade_trajectory_prac settings instead. Once a line-up works, our article on CS2 smokes explains how the cloud behaves after it lands.

CS2 bot commands
| Command | Needs sv_cheats 1 | What it does |
|---|---|---|
bot_add_t, bot_add_ct | No | Adds a bot to that team |
bot_kick | No | Kicks all bots, or one by name |
bot_quota 0 | No | Sets the total number of bots; 0 keeps them out |
bot_difficulty 0 to 3 | No | Easy, normal, hard or expert, for bots that join afterwards |
bot_knives_only, bot_pistols_only, bot_snipers_only | No | Limits what bots use |
bot_dont_shoot 1 | Yes | Bots stop firing |
bot_zombie 1 | Yes | Bots stay idle and don't attack |
bot_place | Yes | Puts a bot where you are aiming |
bot_mimic <index> | Yes | Bots copy the inputs of the player with that index |
bot_place with bot_zombie 1 gives you a still target on an exact angle, which is handy for pre-aiming common spots. Set bot_quota 0 as well as using bot_kick, because the quota sets how many bots the game keeps; Valve's Competitive settings use a quota of one.

CS2 bunny hop commands
A bunny hop chains a new jump into each landing to carry speed forward. Two server settings control it, and neither needs sv_cheats:
sv_autobunnyhopping 1makes you jump again automatically while you hold the jump key.sv_enablebunnyhopping 1lets jump speed exceed 1.1 times the normal maximum. Valve brought that speed limit back in June 2023 and named this setting as the way to switch it off.
Valve reworked jumping on January 21, 2026. Landings are now timed with sub-tick precision, jumps and landings no longer cost stamina, and a jump pressed inside sv_bhop_time_window around the moment you land counts as a successful bunny hop, unless sv_jump_spam_penalty_time has ignored it as a repeated press. HLTV noted that this meant adjusting how hops have to be landed.
Valve's description says lowering sv_jump_spam_penalty_time makes bunny hopping easier, and on a private server sv_legacy_jump 1 brings back the jump code from before 2026. None of this changes matchmaking, where Valve's values apply. Jump-throws have their own rules, covered in our CS2 binds guide.

How to 1v1 in CS2 with a friend
Since April 25, 2024 a party can launch Practice matches and Workshop maps together. For a 1v1:
- Invite your friend to your party.
- In Play > Practice, pick a map and start the match. You host it.
- Remove the bots with
bot_quota 0andbot_kick, or switch on Infinite Warmup so none join. - Each of you picks a side under Choose Team (M by default).
- For proper rounds, type
mp_warmup_endand thenmp_restartgame 1.
The Open Party switch helps too. With it on, any friend can join your party from their main menu, and since March 18, 2026 friends can also join a Practice or Workshop game you are already playing, straight from the friends menu.
For custom duels, subscribe to a map on the Steam Workshop and start it from the Workshop Maps tab. With Open Party on, Valve says, that hosts a game on your machine that friends can join. The same console commands work there, because you are still the host.
